The institute offers international heritage professionals a two-month training course to deepen their knowledge of heritage management and conservation in France and to better identify the various participants in French heritage and institutional bodies involved in culture and heritage (Ministry of Culture, public establishments of culture archaeology, archives, etc.).
The course generally takes place in May and June in the spring, from late March to early June, and is held in Paris and Aubervilliers, outside Paris.
The training programme is tailored to the profile and career plans of each trainee, taking into account the possibilities offered by the training content of the department of curators and the department of conservators-restorers.
The requirements are as follows:
- A very good university level, comparable to that of candidates for the curatorial competition in France.
- Be able to follow courses, lectures and meetings in French without difficulty (minimum level B2 to be proven).
- Have sufficient financial resources to cover the costs of their stay (accommodation, transport, etc.).

The INP's international commission will decide in July whether to admit candidates, subject to the availability of places.
Nationals of the Member States of the European Union, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein who hold a bachelor's degree may take part in the competitive examination for curators, which, after training, gives access to the state curatorial body or to the job category of local heritage curators.
The Institut national du patrimoine covers the cost of the course (tuition fees, individual support, teaching, etc.) and the candidate undertakes to attend regularly and punctually.
Students must pay for their own international travel tickets, administrative formalities (visa, etc.), stay in France (accommodation, food, local transport) and social cover (sickness, civil liability and repatriation).
THE SCHEME
Since its creation in 2003, the purpose of the Résidence Culture scheme has been to set up and develop cooperation projects, and to encourage the creation of sustainable exchange networks. It enables selected French organisations and professionals to develop international partnerships and strengthen existing cooperation.
The programme is designed, financed and implemented by the Ministry of Culture (Sub-Directorate for European and International Affairs), in conjunction with the ministry's general departments, operators and other eligible structures, and with diplomatic posts.
The Sub-Directorate for European and International Affairs (SDAEI) uses a service provider, Alambret communication, for the logistical implementation of the programme. It pays each trainee a grant of €1,500 per month and covers the trainee's social security.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The programme is aimed at experienced professionals with responsibilities in foreign cultural institutions (administrators of cultural institutions, heads of departments, cultural project managers, cultural managers of local authorities, managers responsible for developing and steering cultural policies) who wish to develop a concrete professional project with a host establishment in France, enabling a reciprocal exchange of knowledge and skills.
If you meet the required criteria and have no other means of funding, you can attach a CV, a letter of application for a bursary and a photocopy of your passport to your application.
If your application is accepted by the INP's international committee, it will be submitted to the Ministry of Culture for an official grant application.
Please note: trainees must arrive in France with sufficient funds to stay for approximately one week, as the payment procedures for the bursary may sometimes require a delay in processing.
