The research laboratory

The Laboratory of the department of conservators-restorers is a research unit recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education and reporting to the Ministry of Culture.

It has two main missions:

  • Theoretical and practical teaching of science and providing individual tutoring to students for scientific examinations (analysis, imaging) before starting restoration projects, PEEX experimental projects and scientific protocols used during preparation of the thesis.
  • Research on projects involving knowledge of techniques and materials used to make objects, for example, as well as the development or adaptation of conservation-restoration protocols and also analysis and imaging methodology.

These projects are multidisciplinary, bringing together conservation scientists, conservation-restoration specialists, historians, art historians, and curators.
