Promoting diversity and equal opportunities

Since 2017, the Institut national du patrimoine, a higher education establishment of the Ministry of Culture, has been committed to preventing all forms of discrimination and also to promoting professional equality between the genders, through an AFNOR Diversity and Equality labelling process. The Institute was awarded the Diversité [“Diversity”] label in 2018, renewed in 2022, and the Egalité [“Equality”] label in 2022. This approach is part of ministerial initiative and echoes a long-standing commitment by the Institute.

This concern for Diversity and Equality is reflected not only in the recruitment and training of students, but also in the way the Institute is managed.

Our Leading Initiatives

For the recruitment of heritage curators and conservator-restorers

The Prépa Talents class (since 2010)

In partnership with the École du Louvre, the École Nationale des Chartes and the Fondation Culture et Diversité, and with the support of the Ministry of the Civil Service, the aim of the Prépa Talents class for the external competitive examination for curators is to help students prepare by providing them with enhanced teaching support, financial assistance and tutoring.

12 students are selected each year. The success rate of students in the Prépa Talents class has been 19.8% since the programme was set up in 2010 (compared with an admission rate of 10% at national level).

The Equal Opportunities Programme (since 2014)

This programme, offered in partnership with the Fondation Culture et Diversité, aims to support students of artistic professions from modest backgrounds in preparing for the Inp competitive entrance exam.

8 students are selected each year.

The success rate for the competitive entrance exam for Ateliers Egalité des Chances students has been 43% since the programme was set up (21.7% of admissions at national level).

Examination centres in overseas territories

In accordance with the circular of 23 July 2010 relating to the conditions for participation by overseas residents in civil service competitions, the written tests for the competitive examination for heritage curators are held in examination centres for candidates living in overseas departments, regions, and municipalities.

Training of recruitment juries (since 2014)

To ensure that the methods used to select students are exemplary, members of selection panels receive training in which the prevention of discrimination is addressed.

For student training

  • For all students: awareness-raising of the challenges of equality and diversity through training and discussion and by familiarising themselves with the Inp's charter for gender equality. The school monitors the material conditions of its students and combats period poverty by providing free menstrual protection.

  • For student curators: as part of their training, student curators develop a project in artistic and cultural education or in equal opportunities that is aimed at a socially disadvantaged audience or one with little access to culture, and produce a report presenting the project and its implementation. This project is developed in groups and in partnership with social or educational associations throughout the period of training.

For the training of heritage professionals

Since its creation, the Institut national du patrimoine has been committed to offering training courses throughout France, including in the French overseas territories, and organises or participates in international training programmes.

Every year, it accepts international students and professionals specialised in heritage.

For the institution's staff

  • Establishment of procedures for the main HR management activities (recruitment, orientation and integration, professional evaluation, promotion for permanent staff, training, parenthood support, etc.).

  • The Ministry of Culture's range of social services is provided at the institution.

  • Widespread communication about the helpline set up at ministerial level for employees who witness or are victims of discrimination or violence of a sexist or sexual nature.

  • Gender equality charter for Inp employees

  • Organisation of initiatives to raise awareness and train all employees

  • Participation in national awareness-raising campaigns on these issues (DuoDay).
